Description

When faced with a workplace accommodation problem, would you like to be able to learn how others have solved it? Are you frustrated when you see a “solution” that an employer or employee made on their own that is not working well because it was chosen without adequate information?

We are developing Work ACCESS and the Assistive Software Knowledge base, new online tools and apps to help people, particularly employers and employees with disabilities, make informed accommodation decisions. We would like your input on what features to include, what assessment questions need to be asked, what solutions should be prioritized for different scenarios, and how to make all of this easy to use.

We will be holding a special pre-conference session at ATIA on Wednesday morning (January 29th) to work on developing these tools. The first part of the morning will be spent learning about the tools and providing feedback on their interfaces and features. Later, breakout groups will brainstorm accommodation problems and solutions related to an aspect of communication, computer access, or office workstation design/ergonomics. The full session will take about 3.5 hours, plus you will be asked to spend about a half hour reviewing a section of materials in advance.

Participants will receive $80 as compensation for their time. We are also providing CEUs/CRC credits.

To participate, you must:

  • Have experience using and/or recommending workplace accommodations
  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Work in and be participating from the United States
  • Be fluent in spoken or written English

If you would like to provide input, but are not available for this workshop, please find us in the ATIA Exhibit Hall at the Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation booth for demonstrations. We will also be holding shorter feedback sessions (without CEUs) throughout the day on Thursday, January 30th and Friday, January 31st. More information to come!
